About Tom Chee

Tom Chee’s campaign is rooted in a simple but powerful belief: the Navajo Nation’s future must be built upon our language, our land, our culture, and our people. Drawing from decades of public service, education, and community leadership, Tom Chee’s vision is centered on restoring pride, strengthening local communities, and creating opportunities for future generations.

Supporting the Navajo Nation Through Leadership and Community

The Navajo Nation spans 27,000 square miles and is home to thousands of families who continue to carry forward the traditions, values, and resilience of the Diné people. Tom Chee believes that protecting the Navajo language and culture is not optional — it is essential to preserving the identity and strength of the Nation itself.

Throughout his life, Tom Chee has served the Navajo people as a teacher, coach, community advocate, and former member of the 23rd Navajo Nation Council. During his time on the Budget and Finance Committee, he helped oversee major investments that supported infrastructure and public safety across the Nation.

His campaign is about more than politics. It is about listening to communities, empowering Chapters, supporting families, and ensuring that Navajo people have meaningful opportunities to succeed at home.

A Vision Rooted in Navajo Values

Tom Chee believes the Navajo Nation must strengthen the values that have sustained Diné people for generations:

  • Respect for the Navajo language and clan system

  • Empowerment of local Chapters and communities

  • Support for veterans, elders, youth, and working families

  • Greater economic opportunity and self-sufficiency

  • Preservation of Navajo traditions, ethics, and cultural teachings

Tom often speaks about the importance of being bilingual and bicultural — preserving traditional values while embracing the tools and technology necessary to move the Nation forward.

Supporting Chapters and Local Communities

One of the biggest concerns across the Navajo Nation is the growing pressure placed on local Chapters. Chapters are expected to provide critical services to residents, yet they receive only a small portion of the Nation’s budget while lacking sufficient administrative support and training.

Tom Chee believes local leaders deserve better support, better training, and greater resources so they can effectively serve their communities. His vision includes listening sessions throughout the Navajo Nation to better understand the challenges facing individual Chapters and families.

Economic Development That Benefits Navajo People

Tom Chee understands that the Navajo Nation must create more revenue-producing projects and long-term economic opportunities. As revenues decline and costs rise, economic development has become critical to the future of the Nation.

His vision focuses on:

  • Supporting Navajo-owned businesses and entrepreneurs

  • Expanding home site leasing opportunities through better technology and streamlined processes

  • Supporting ranchers and responsible land stewardship

  • Investing in education and workforce development

  • Creating opportunities that encourage young Navajos to return home after college or training

Tom Chee has repeatedly emphasized the importance of strengthening the Navajo middle class — families who work hard, raise children, and contribute to their communities but often feel disconnected from government support systems.

Investing in Education and the Next Generation

As a former educator with 25 years of experience in the classroom, Tom Chee deeply believes in education as a pathway to opportunity.

His vision includes:

  • More meaningful scholarships for Navajo students

  • Greater support for young families

  • Expanded workforce training opportunities

  • Exploration of a Navajo law school grounded in Navajo language and law in partnership with institutions like Diné College and Navajo Technical University

Tom Chee believes the Navajo Nation must create a future where young people feel hopeful about returning home, building careers, raising families, and contributing to their communities.

Supporting Navajo Culture and Traditional Knowledge

Tom Chee also recognizes the importance of supporting traditional Navajo teachings and organizations such as the Diné HataaÅ‚ii Association. Preserving ceremonies, language, cultural teachings, and traditional values remains central to his broader vision for the Nation’s future.

The future of the Navajo Nation depends on leadership that listens to the people, respects Navajo values, and works tirelessly to create meaningful opportunities for all Diné people. Tom Chee’s vision is ultimately about bringing people together and building a stronger future — for the people.
